Course Overview

It is designed to equip learners with both theoretical understanding and practical strategies to improve the quality of life, dignity, and independence of people living with dementia.

Participants will explore the nature of dementia and its progression, and examine how it affects cognition, behaviour, communication, and daily functioning. The course places strong emphasis on person-centred dementia care, ensuring that learners are able to tailor support to the individual’s history, preferences, cultural background, and current abilities.

Learners will also develop practical skills in communication, behaviour support, and daily care strategies, while gaining confidence in managing complex or challenging situations.

Ethical and legal responsibilities, safeguarding, and end-of-life care considerations are also addressed, alongside the vital role of supporting family caregivers and working within community and cultural contexts.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to deliver compassionate, informed, and effective dementia care that prioritises dignity, safety, and wellbeing.
